- COMPENSATION – On April 25, 2021, the Saudi Arabian government increased the minimum monthly salary from 3,000 SAR to 4,000 SAR. However, private companies aren’t subject to this requirement.
- WORKING HOURS – Workers receive their pay either monthly or weekly. Employees are expected to work 48 hours a week or 8 hours a day. The work hours are reduced to 36 hours a week and 6 hours a day during the month of Ramadan. All government and most private establishments consider Friday and Saturday the official weekend.
- OVERTIME LAWS – Employees working for more than the standard weekly or daily working hours will receive extra pay, which is usually an additional 50% of their usual salary, along with the basic hourly earnings.
- SICK LEAVE – Payroll for small businesses has to take sick leaves into consideration, which is typically up to four months for employees in Saudi Arabia. Though it is paid, the compensation reduces with the increasing number of days.
- PARENTAL LEAVE – Female employees receive up to 10 weeks of paid maternity leave, which can be taken four weeks before the expected delivery date. However, it would depend on how long the employee has been working in the organization. Employees who have been part of the company for three years or more are eligible to receive 100% pay during leave. Fathers in Saudi Arabia receive only one day of paternity leave on the day of having the baby. Public Holidays – Payroll companies in Saudi Arabia must consider public holidays while processing salaries. There are around six national holidays in the nation, but some of them go up to 12 days. Some of the major holidays include the Islamic New Year, the Day of Arafah, Eid Al Adha, Eid Al Fitr, Al-Yawm-Al-Watani, and Yawm-Al-Taasis.
- PAYROLL TAXES – Employees with personal income don’t have to pay payroll tax, especially when making their sole living in Saudi Arabia. Although, resident employees are required to remit a 10% social security deduction. It is apart from a 2% deduction on unemployment insurance and pension. Some of the other taxes are for Social Security (GOSI), Pension Contributions and Unemployment Insurance (SANID), Occupational Hazard Insurance, and Corporate Income.
